I am committed to the process and if the process needs modification that meets the community’s needs, I will pursue it; bringing government back to the people. When I presided over council, some people differed with new changes. Sometimes we are caught up with the thought, “well I want progress, but I don’t want change.” Where there is progress, there certainly is change. I believe we have to continually improve with our ability to reconnect with the community through vigorous public outreach. It is not enough to say “we are having a public hearing” during a council meeting. We have an obligation to reach out to the various organizations, neighborhoods, and other segments of our community. When I was in office, I held over 100 public meetings with neighborhoods, special interest groups, and civic organizations, including the faith community. During my six years in office, I provided 1500 speaking engagements to inform the public and to garner feedback on how we can do better. I’ve never refused an appointment or meeting with anyone, and I hold to that commitment today. Together, we are better!
