Community wide emissions were 9% below 2005 levels. The key drivers behind this decrease are as follows:

• Electricity – represents approximately 3% of the decrease in emissions since 2014, largely due to changes in Platte River’s energy portfolio which included a 2.5X increase in renewables and Fort Collins’ addition of 4.9 megawatts of solar, e.g., the Riverside Community Garden;
• Ground Travel – represents approximately 2% decrease since 2014, largely due to more efficient vehicles on our roads (which results in less gasoline consumption and less emissions)

In addition to these key drivers, Natural Gas consumption also decreased in 2015, but Solid Waste emissions actually increased. Staff is currently exploring the main drivers behind these aspects of the inventory. We are planning to include a more complete update to City Council with the May Climate Action Plan update, and a full report on the community inventory will be issued in June.

Staff is also compiling the Municipal Inventory (which was down 12% below 2005 levels in 2014) this month and hopes to report on those results in the report to Council in May as well.
