I was just informed of a release at the Fort Collins Field tank battery located in the Growth Management Area (outside city limits). The spill occurred Sunday morning in a flowline that feeds the Whitaker Blunk 1 well and was contained within the tank battery site.

The spill consisted of 3 barrels of crude oil and 7.9 barrels of produced water. A vactor truck was dispatched this morning and clean-up is ongoing. So far, Memorial Resource Development reports recovery of 2 barrels of oil and 1.95 barrels water, the remaining material was captured in the soil. Soil will be remediated either by removal and disposal at an approved facility or through an on-site recovery process.

Once a report is on file with the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC), it will be posted on the City’s oil and gas website.
